Major transport schemes

The County Council seeks to maximise the operation of the highway network to provide safe and reliable journeys for all users. In many cases this can be done by small integrated transport improvements and increasingly by the use of technology to manage traffic better and make public transport a more attractive travel option.

In some cases major improvements are required. Most of the current focus is on providing the infrastructure required to support the growth proposed for Kent Thameside and Ashford, and to lift the economy of East Kent.

In general, all major schemes require Government funding. Bids for schemes need to compete nationally for scarce resources.
