HGVs and lorries

Kent roads are an important link in the UK's economy. A huge amount of HGV traffic passes through Kent - particularly to and from the channel ports.

To help heavy traffic move quickly and smoothly,and to minimise impact on the local community and the environment, we provide:

• route signing to direct lorry traffic to and from commercial premises by the most appropriate routes
• a map for lorry drivers to direct them to principal commercial areas by the best routes
• information about restricted bridges

We also promote 'Freight Quality Partnerships' so that lorry traffic can be routed to and from sensitive areas in an effective and environmentally-friendly way.

We work in partnership with Freight Associations, the police and other bodies to promote good practice and develop innovative ideas.
