Travel by road

Traffic levels in Kent have grown, and are growing all the time. Our job is to keep roads clear through parking strategies, and by managing permits for anything that will cause obstructions. We also plan and use measures to manage congestion, and to direct heavy traffic through appropriate routes.

We use a range of measures to manage congestion on Kent's roads, and to keep residents, businesses and visitors moving.

You will need a licence or permit for most work or to place anything that causes an obstruction or disruption on the highway.

Maps of lorry routes, and information on weighbridges and restricted bridges.

A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is a legal Order, which allows the highway authority to regulate or restrict the speed, movement and parking of vehicles and is enforceable by law.
