Throughout our lives most of us will either give or receive care.

Many people do not class themselves as carers: they are mums and dads, husbands, wives, partners, brothers, sisters, friends and neighbours. Carers come from all walks of life, ages and backgrounds, carers are not a separate or distinct group of other people and caring touches all of our lives.

Kent County Council's agreed definition of a carer is:

"A carer is someone who looks after family, partner or friend in need of help because they are ill, frail or have a disability. The care they provide is unpaid".
