Changes to your home care services

Sometimes we need to make changes to how we provide services to you. If we do, we will tell you about them here. 

Find out how these changes will affect you if you are a care services worker or a care services provider.  

Home care tender

The home care service you receive is provided to you by private companies on our behalf.

We needed to review these contracts to make sure that the service we provide is high quality, value for money and supports you to live independently in your own home. We have now awarded new contracts to home care companies to provide home care services for people in Kent.

Some of the benefits of the new contracts include:

  • efficient rounds lead to greater continuity of care, less late starts or early finishes
  • home care companies need to provide a trusted team, or make sure the same few people deliver your care
  • a quality audit was carried out as part of the tender which should ensure higher levels of quality across home care companies
  • care should be delivered by local people in the local area wherever possible.

The new contracts will start on 2 June 2014 and have been awarded by clinical commissioning group area (PDF, 87.8 KB).

If there are any changes in who provides your care, this will take place between June and September 2014 and we will work closely with your current provider and the new provider to ensure a smooth transition.

You will continue to receive the same level of service but your care worker may change if your current provider:

  • chose not to tender
  • has been unsuccessful in securing a new home care contract.

In these cases, we will support you and your care worker through the changes and give you advice about what options are available, including direct payments.

How this will affect what you pay

The amount you pay for home care is re-assessed every year. You may have had a letter about re-assessment recently or may receive one soon. The home care tender does not affect your current charge or this re-assessment at present but may do so in the future.

After the new contracts are in place, the cost of your care may change when we reassess your contribution. Many will see a reduction in their charges and a few may see an increase. We will notify you immediately if there are any changes to the amount you need to pay.
