Notify a partner about a sexually transmitted infection (STI)

Letting your sexual partners know that you have an STI is important to help reduce the onward spread of infections. Some infections are relatively easy to pass on and it is important for everyone to stop transmission as quickly as possible.

If you test positive for chlamydia, syphilis or gonorrhoea, you will be invited by the results bureau team to inform partners through an anonymous online notification service. You can choose to provide the telephone numbers or upload the telephone numbers of your sexual contacts onto a portal. Your contacts can then be sent an anonymised message advising them that a sexual partner has been detected with an infection. You can add a personal message at the time if you prefer.

These contacts will be followed up and offered advice, screening and treatment by the confidential results bureau who will not pass on any of your details to your contacts.
