Education, training and publicity
Kent County Council use education, training and publicity
to help promote our road safety messages to all pedestrians in
Kent. We regularly create and run campaigns with specific
pedestrian road safety messages. See our latest
campaigns.
We also visit primary and secondary schools to talk to
students about ways to stay safer whilst using the county's
roads.
At primary schools, we offer the very popular child pedestrian
training scheme, Small
Steps. At secondary schools, we respond whenever possible to
invitations to speak to specific year groups, whole school events
or school councils on road safety and the associated risks to
teenagers.
Owing to the success of these schemes, we are currently
developing a modular young pedestrian course, specifically
for transition stage children at this particularly vulnerable
time, as they move from primary to secondary school.
Another valuable tool we use is Theatre in
education. Various performances have been widely acclaimed in
many Kent schools.
