Residents' parking schemes
Some residential areas simply don't have enough parking
spaces.
Often, there is nothing that can be done, because the problem is
just that there are too many cars and not enough space.
Sometimes, the problem may be because the area is near a town
centre or railway station, and space may be taken up by commuters
or visitors.
In some areas, there are residents' parking schemes to help
reduce this problem.
How do these schemes work?
Residents may buy a permit for their area. Generally, the cost
of the permit simply covers the costs of the scheme. Roadside signs
tell people that they are in a residents' parking zone. People who
do not have a permit can only park there for a limited time.
How can I get a residents' parking scheme set up in my area or
a residents' parking permit?
If you think there is a problem with parking in your area, and
you would like a residents' parking scheme to be considered,
contact
your local district or borough council.
