A28/A2 On Slip Road, Canterbury
The new slip road from the A28 Thannington Road to the A2 London
bound will improve accessibility to the A2 and reduce unnecessary
traffic on the Ring Road.
The A28 required slight modifications to enable the provision of
traffic signals to access the new slip road. Lay-bys were
provided to mitigate the loss of on street parking.
Accommodation works were required for the Community Centre
including construction of a BMX track to offset the effect of the
land taken for the scheme.

The work was carried out by KCC’s term contractor and work
started on the A28 element of the scheme in September 2010 and on
the slip road itself in May 2011.
Current situation
The new slip road was completed and opened to traffic on 25
August 2011.
The traffic signals are linked into the adjacent signals serving
the north facing slips and will be monitored to optimise the
operation of this busy and constrained section of the A28.
