Gravesend Transport Quarter Phase 3 – Rathmore Road Link

The vision for the Transport Quarter is to create a major gateway for Gravesend with a transport interchange that integrates the railway station within the town centre and with bus/Fastrack and taxi services by rationalising traffic movements and improving links for pedestrians.

Phase 1 was the improvement of the public realm area in front of the Civic Centre and that was completed by Gravesham Borough Council in July 2011.

Phase 2 will be the provision of a multi storey car park by Network Rail by the north side station entrance.

Phase 3 is the provision of Rathmore Road Link between Wrotham Road/Stone Street and Darnley Road and changes to Clive Road to make it two-way with associated improvements to Railway Place to reflect the changes in traffic movements.

Phase 4 will be the final stage of transforming Garrick Street into a modern bus interchange made possible by the earlier phases.

For more detailed information on the wider aspirations and master plan for the area go to the Gravesham Borough Council Website.

The scheme for Rathmore Road link is being delivered by the County Council in partnership with Gravesham Borough Council.

The scheme will be supported from the ‘Homes & Roads’ funding programme for Kent Thameside provided by the Homes and Communities Agency.

Current situation

A planning application was submitted to us on 24 April 2012.

Construction is unlikely to be able to start before 2014/15 because of the need to complete statutory processes including the assembly of the necessary land.

An exhibition showing plans of the proposals takes place on 8 - 21 May 2012 at Gravesham Civic Centre and Towncentric. Find out more about the exhibition (PDF, 2419k) and view the leaflet (PDF, 1701k) that has been sent to local residents and businesses.
