Saddle-up and enjoy Kent by bike. Whether cycling to
work, school or just for fun it's a great way to get fit,
save money and boost your environmental credentials.
If more people cycle we'll have a healthier, less congested and
less polluted county.
Why encourage cycling
Traffic jams, delays, pollution, longer journeys - our
roads are not coping with growing traffic. It's not possible to
build enough roads to cope with growing car numbers or protect
our environment against increasing traffic pollution.
Many journeys people make are less than 2 miles - a
distance most people could cycle.
Benefits include:
- fewer cars using the road, meaning less pollution
- it is often quicker than the car at peak times
- lower costs
- a healthier and fitter society.
Regular cycling is associated with a decreased risk of ill
health and premature death. Studies have shown that regular
cyclists enjoy the general health of someone approximately 10 years
younger.
Cycling for businesses
Employees who cycle to work suffer less absenteeism than
non-cycling employees? Workers arrive fresh, relaxed and motivated.

Cycling for schools
The daily school run is a large part of the morning rush hour
traffic. By encouraging pupils to cycle to school you'll improve
their fitness as well as reduce those dreaded school run snarl-ups.
