Community bus transport

Although we invest some £7 million in supporting the public transport network, some communities may feel they could benefit from a community mini-bus to ensure adequate access to services.

An application procedure exists for organisations seeking financial assistance when establishing a community mini-bus operation.

This procedure can be followed by parish councils or other community organisations in locations where there are infrequent, or no scheduled bus services.

However, before making such an application it's essential that every reasonable step is taken to make people aware of existing local bus services. It's often the case that such services have been withdrawn, either by a commercial bus operator or by KCC.

This is sometimes because they have not been used by the communities they serve. Other forms of sustainable transport, like car sharing, are equally as important and should also be encouraged.
