Residents' parking schemes

Residents' parking schemes help people who live in busy areas park near their house. The area may be busy due to:

  • too many cars and not enough spaces
  • visitors to a town centre
  • commuters parking near a railway station.

How the scheme works

Residents may buy a permit for their area. The cost of the permit covers the costs of the scheme. Roadside signs tell people that they are in a residents' parking zone. People who do not have a permit can only park there for a limited time.

Your district council can help you to:

  • buy a parking permit
  • set up a new residents' parking scheme
  • find out about exemptions
  • find out where you need a permit to park.
