The Supporting People grant pays for the provision of
housing-related support services, which are delivered to achieve
the outcome of sustained independent living. Such services support
people to increase their independence and quality of life, and
their ability to make a contribution to the communities they live
in.
Kent has developed the eligibility Policy based on comprehensive
guidelines given by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM)
and in the light of the freedoms and flexibilities it has as an
excellent authority. The policy establishes Kent's approach to
determining eligibility for Supporting People funding and defines
housing-related support, which distinguishes it from other types of
assistance such as social care and housing management. The
Supporting People grant will only fund certain activities which are
called the eligible tasks and ensure the appropriate targeting of
Supporting People on housing-related support services.
The Commissioning Body agreed the Eligibility Policy in February
2006. The policy will be subject to regular review in the light of
evolving ODPM guidance, grant directions and emerging policy.
