This book endeavours to provide information about Kent's rarest
and most threatened flora and fauna. It contains accounts of over
1,300 species.
Some of these species have always been of restricted
distribution or limited population size because of their special
ecological requirements. Many others, however, were once common in
our countryside.
The publication of the Kent Red Data Book will contribute to
efforts designed to protect and conserve those species which are
naturally rare, and those species which are threatened by human
impact upon the natural environment.
The book has a comprehensive coverage, although, as a
'provisional' book, there are still gaps to be filled.
The book was published in March 2000.
