Employment occupation and workforce

An analysis of the industries, occupations and employment status of the workforce in Kent

  • The Kent County Council (KCC) Area, (which does not include Medway) has a greater percentage of people employed in the construction, health, finance and agricultural sectors compared to the national average.

  • The KCC Area has a lower proportion of managerial and senior officials than the South East Region, but this proportion is marginally above the national average.

  • Within Kent, (which includes Medway), the percentage of those aged 16-74 in full-time employment is highest in Dartford, followed by Medway Unitary Authority, Maidstone and Tonbridge and Malling. These four areas are above the South East regional average.

The Census is carried out every 10 years. The 2001 Census was conducted on 29 April 2001 by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) for the whole of England and Wales.

The data collected from a census is useful in planning services and resources throughout the whole decade, despite seeming out of date to many already.
