World class cyclists descend on Kent
6 September 2010

On 4 and 5 September the Kent International
Para-Cycling Championships was held at Fowlmead Country
Park, near Deal.
For the first time in the UK, Kent hosted the road race event
with over 100 riders from 13 different nations. It is classified as
a P1 event which means it is an important part of the championships
as cyclists are racing for points which can help them qualify for
the Paralympics.
Kent County Council has worked in partnership
with Eurotunnel, Fowlmead Country
Park, British Cycling, Vista Leisure and other
para-cycling associations on the event aimed at promoting Kent
worldwide to boost tourism and the local economy and promote the
venue for future major events beyond the London 2012 Games.

During the championships, there was a free family fun day with
the chance to meet official Paralympic mascot
Mandeville as well as dance displays, have-a-go sports
sessions, face painting and Fowlmead's new children's
playground.
