Kent County Council statement on Rosalind Turner
11 January 2011
Kent County Council has asked the BBC to set the
record straight following the inference in yesterday and today’s
broadcasts on Radio Kent and BBC SE Today that Rosalind Turner's departure as Managing Director
for Children, Families and Education is
linked to the Ofsted inspection of safeguarding and services for
looked after children.
The county council is undergoing a major senior management and
organisational restructure, along with preparing for significant
budget savings. Several senior managers will be leaving at the end
of March this year, having opted for voluntary redundancy. Rosalind
is leaving because her current post will not exist in the new
structure and the new model is very different as it separates
education and children’s social care.
Since the Ofsted inspection, Rosalind has continued to lead on
the social care improvement and recovery programme, along with her
other duties with regard to early years, education and other
services for children, young people and families, and will remain
an employee of the county council until 31 March 2011.
Rosalind will hand over responsibilities to an interim director
who will help manage the transition into the new arrangements and
continue to lead the improvement in children and families social
care. This is by no means a comment on Rosalind’s ability to lead
the services and the contribution she has made during her time in
Kent. She has been a valued member of the senior management team,
and well regarded by staff, schools and partner agencies.
