Kent cuts back – to improve road safety
18 January 2010
Kent Highway
Services has begun a six week campaign to cutback trees and
bushes obscuring road signs in order to improve the safety of
motorists and other road users.
Work started on Monday 18 January and should be completed by the
end of February – before the bird-nesting season.
Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and
Waste Nick
Chard said:
“We are clearing overhanging branches and vegetation around road
signs to make our roads and pavements safer for all those who use
them. We are doing this very important work in January–February
time so that birds are not disturbed while they nest.”
Crews will be out in Shepway, Ashford, Swale, Thanet, Maidstone
and Sevenoaks, initially concentrating on main routes and known
problem areas, before moving on to secondary routes, depending on
the time and budget available.
Anyone wanting to report a problem with overgrown vegetation
should call our 24 hour helpline on 08458 247 800.
