International honour for Fastrack
2 June 2010
North Kent’s popular Fastrack buses between
Dartford and Gravesend have scooped an international honour.
At a prestigious awards ceremony recognising
innovation in public transport, Fastrack was made joint runner-up
out of 26 schemes worldwide, along with the public transport system
in India’s seventh largest city, Ahmedabad. Top spot went to
Spain’s capital city, Madrid.
Kent County Council Cabinet Member for
Highways, Nick Chard, said:
“Our continuing success with Fastrack is a big
plus for bus passengers in north Kent – the services are frequent,
flexible and reliable. We are planning similar improvements to the
bus network elsewhere in the county by developing quality
partnerships.”
Fastrack operator Arriva’s Regional Commercial
Manager Kevin Hawkins said:
“This is a huge accolade and a fitting reward
for all the effort that has been put in by both the partners in
Kent Thameside and our staff. Together we shared the Fastrack
vision and have made this innovative scheme a reality.”
The awards were made by the International
Transport Forum and the International Public Transport Union at a
ceremony in Leipzig, Germany.
