All aboard the bus for a route to success
27 May 2010
The word on apprenticeships is taking to the
streets. A new attention-grabbing apprenticeship bus – the first in
the country – is being sent out and about in Kent to tell employers
and young people how apprenticeshipscan develop talent, be a real
benefit to businessesand open up a route to success.
Kent County Council Leader, Paul Carter, and Cabinet Member for Community
Services, Mike Hill, were joined by
current apprentices to launch the new customised bus outside County
Hall yesterday (Wednesday). It has been designed to transform
the way apprenticeships are promoted by taking the information
directly to businesses and young people in town centres, industrial
estates, shopping areas, schools and colleges.
The outside of the new bus is emblazoned with
the key benefits of apprenticeships, which include:
- improved productivity
- a motivated workforce
- eliminating skills gaps by growing your own staff
- tailored training to meet your specific business needs.
Inside the bus is a meeting area, so
everywhere it stops young people and employers can come aboard,
talk to the apprenticeship team and find out how it can work for
them.
Kent County Council Leader, Paul Carter said:
“I can’t stress enough how valuable
apprenticeships are and I’m delighted that we can get out there now
and help both employers and young people to understand what a
fantastic opportunity they are.
“There are still employers out there who think
that taking on an apprentice means red tape and form-filling but it
absolutely doesn’t – we’ve removed the bureaucracy and this bus
means that we can take the real message about apprenticeships
directly to them.”
