Good news for Kent as government agrees broadband bid
27 January 2012
Superfast broadband will be coming to Kent
after the government agreed a £10million package of funding to help
make it happen.
In his announcement, Communications Minister
Ed Vaizey praised the enthusiasm of Kent – and its Medway
partner.
Kevin Lynes, KCC
Cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said:
“This is very welcome news. Improving
broadband connections for every part of Kent will be crucial in
helping the county’s businesses to be as competitive as
possible.
“It will also help communities to stay
connected.
“But this is not the end of the story. We are
providing £10million and alongside this vital government support,
we also need to persuade those who provide the broadband network to
work with us in reaching every corner of Kent. So there is still
work to do in showing the industry that it needs to invest right
across the county.
“We won’t see the benefits overnight but, in
the longer term, this announcement and our partnership will keep
Kent fighting fit for the rest of the 21st century.”
