London 2012 Olympic Torch to spend four days in Kent

The national announcement about the route of the Olympic torch, highlights that it will spend longer in Kent than any other county in the UK.

It will pass through 37 communities in the county, arriving in Kent on 17 July and leaving around four days later.

There will be plenty of opportunity to line the streets and cheer on the torch as the locations will include:

Tunbridge Wells [It then goes into Sussex and the next day returns into Kent at Hamstreet]--- Hamstreet --- Ashford --- Hythe --- Sandgate --- Folkestone --- Dover --- Deal --- Sholden --- Sandwich --- Great Stonar --- Cliffs End --- St Lawrence --- Ramsgate --- Broadstairs --- St Peter’s --- Cliftonville --- Margate --- Westgate-On-Sea --- Birchington-On-Sea --- Upstreet --- Sturry --- Canterbury --- Thanington --- Faversham --- Challock --- Harrietsham --- Maidstone --- Chatham --- Gillingham --- Rochester ---Higham --- Gravesend --- Borough Green --- Seal --- Sevenoaks --- Riverhead.

There will also be two evening celebration stops in Dover (18 July) and Maidstone (19 July) as well as lunchtime stops at two Kent locations, eight photo stops and two breakfast stops. Further details on these locations will be announced at a later date.

The flame will enter the UK on Friday 18 May 2012 and start its journey around the UK the following morning at sunrise from Land's End.  For its 70 day tour of the UK the Torch will be carried by 8,000 inspirational Torchbearers, each nominated by members of the public for their unique stories.
