Music Clash 2011
28 January 2011
Young people across the county are being invited to join a brand
new online ‘battle of the bands’ music competition.
Rock bands, solo artists, pop, jazz, hip hop and classical –
whatever the genre, Kent’s music stars of the future aged between
11 and 18 are being asked to display their talents online in
Music Clash 2011.
From today (Friday 28 January) young musicians can upload a
short video of an original piece of work to the Music Clash
website, which will then be rated by the public over the next two
months.
The competition is being run by Kent County Council and is
sponsored by Canterbury Christ Church University’s Broadstairs
Campus with support from Kent Music and music charity Rhythmix.
Winners will get an amazing package of top technical help from
music industry insiders, including laying down their track in a
studio and performing a live filmed gig.
The top five entries will spend a day in one of the
state-of-the-art recording studios at Canterbury Christ Church
University’s Broadstairs Campus where an expert sound technician
will help put a professional polish on their winning work.
They’ll also get top tips for succeeding in the music industry
during a master class led by one of the music industry
professionals who teach at the campus. Finally they’ll be given
advice on how to set up on stage before performing their winning
entry at a live gig in the Horizons bar at the Broadstairs campus
which will be filmed for the internet.
Roger Gough, KCC Cabinet Member for Corporate Support Services
and Performance Management said:
“This is a fantastic chance for young people to get involved in
Kent’s thriving music scene. All participants will get great
exposure and the winners will receive a real boost to their careers
from the brilliant offer of insider knowledge from experts at
Canterbury Christ Church University’s Broadstairs Campus.”
Dr Andrew Gower, Campus Director, said,
“We’re delighted to be sponsoring this important event and
supporting Kent’s young musical talent.
“The university is keen to encourage musical interest and talent
at all ages, and we hope that the experience of taking part in
events like Music Clash will encourage our county’s talented young
musicians to take up opportunities for further study – whatever
their musical taste, style or background.”
Chief Executive of Kent Music Peter Bolton said:
“This is a wonderful opportunity. By taking part and uploading
their work onto the internet, young people’s music will be seen not
just by the people of Kent but potentially by the whole world.”
In a message to Kent’s young people, East Regional Coordinator
of Rhythmix, Russ Grooms said:
“The music industry is the most exciting industry to be in, so
if you are writing your own songs get your videos uploaded and show
us what you’ve got; we really want to hear from you.”
