From the centre of the county's towns to the heart of the
weald, Kent's range of magnificent trees provide both beautiful
scenery and welcome sanctuary for wildlife.
The county's trees are a valuable natural
asset that encourage and provide for many native species of
birds, insects and fungi.
Kent's trees really are worth celebrating, and you can do just
that by taking part in two great projects happening over the next
few months.
Free trees scheme
The Kent Free Trees Scheme offers residents, organisations and
businesses the opportunity to apply for up to 25 trees and hedges
that are native to Kent.
Sponsored by Network Rail and Kent County Council, the scheme
provided nearly 9,000 trees to residents last year. To grow your
own this year all you have to do is apply, collect the small
saplings, plant them and care for them as they grow.
The Free Trees Scheme is available in Dartford, Gravesham,
Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Swale, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and
Malling, Canterbury, Thanet and Bexley. The closing date for
getting your trees is 31 October 2008.
