Go for gold with the Summer Reading Challenge

30/07/2008

Kent's libraries are running a fantastic Summer Reading Challenge that will have all 4 to 12 year olds racing down to their local libraries to win bronze, silver and gold awards.

Children with books and sports equipmentThe Team Read challenge aims to encourage children to have fun with books and feel rewarded for reading.

It is easy to take part; all you have to do is:

  • join your local library and collect a fun filled poster
  • read six books of your choice and collect special Olympic stickers
  • read and review all six books and win a limited edition medal

Children will be rewarded with prizes as they progress through their lists of books. These include:

  • read two books and receive a bronze sticker and a limited edition find Your Sport bookmark
  • read four books and receive a silver sticker and either a Find Your Sport yo-yo or Frisbee, sponsored by P&O Ferries
  • read six books and you will receive a medal and be entered into a prize draw with the chance of winning one of five family trips to Disneyland Resort Paris provided by P&O Ferries and OctopusTravel

It isn't just about getting children reading though. It is also about helping them to find out more about books, find books that interest them, and spend time reading with their family.

Many of the county's libraries will be holding special Team Read events where younger readers can talk about books and meet authors. They will also provide information on sports clubs and events.

The Team Read challenge will be running until 31 August so on your marks, get set, go and read.
