Make the Garden of England your great place to read this
summer.
The glorious Kent countryside is a fantastic
place to relax, unwind and lose yourself in a good book.
During the National Year of Reading 2008 we are encouraging
everyone to find their great place to read. So does the idea of
reading in the fresh air in one of the county's parks or open
spaces appeal to you?
Library in the park
Get a taste for reading in the outdoors at Dartford's newly
opened library in the park.
Based on a similar idea in New York, the public are given the
opportunity to join the library, browse and borrow books in
Dartford's Central Park.
There are also regular rhyme times and story sessions for
children, making a trip to the library a fun-filled day out in the
fresh air.
The outdoor library is open from 10am to 5pm every Tuesday and
Thursday during July and August, weather dependent.
Watch a film about the
library in the park on Kent TV (link opens
in a new window).
Cliftonville Library will also be joining in the fun and setting
up a library in Northdown Park from the 19 to 21 August.
Countryside locations
Kent is full of fantastic outdoor spots that offer great places
to read. Why not try some of these great locations:
- a local park or open space where you live
- country parks across the county
- nature reserves
- picnic sites
- stop-off spots on countryside walks
The Explore Kent
website provides lots of information on where to go in the Kent
countryside.
There are plenty of outdoor areas to choose from, and a wide
range of books to choose from in
Kent's
libraries. You can even
join online.
So why not escape into the countryside and a good book during
the
National
Year of Reading. |
