Young people celebrate their achievements with glittering ceremony

Some of Maidstone's most inspirational young people had their achievements rewarded last Friday (4 July) at the annual Try Angle awards ceremony.

Youngsters aged between 10 - 18 and their families, carers and friends enjoyed music by band 'Kildren' before being called up on stage to collect their glass trophies and certificates.

Winners from Maidstone were:

  • Personal Achievement in the Arts - Scott Sevenoaks aged 17 from Info Zone, Maidstone
  • Personal Achievement in Music - Jack Saffery aged 16 from Maidstone Grammar School
  • Citizenship and Environment - Maidstone Youth Forum (Laura Fowler, 14; Evie Goodman, 14; Rory Kirk, 14; Nick Rands, 14).
  • Bravery - Charlotte Light aged 18 from Lenham Youth Centre
  • Sport - Alex Hatcher aged 13 from Hayesbrook School
  • Good friends and young carer - James Trimmer aged 13 from Swadelands School
  • Volunteering and Service to the Community - Blaise Matthews aged 16 from Maidstone Grammar School
  • Personal Development - Billy-Jo Reed aged 18 from Maidstone Young Families group

KCC Cabinet Member for Community ServicesMike Hill said: "Each year, the Try Angle Awards bring together young people with incredible stories to tell and the countywide ceremonies are a real highlight in the calendar. It is vital that we recognise and pay tribute to the youngsters in Kent who work so hard, sometimes in the face of adversity."
