KCC comes to you

09/07/2008

A laser light show, the first model of the Turner Contemporary gallery, a new youth website and demonstrations by young people will be some of the features on offer from Kent County Council at this year's Kent County Show.

Staff are gearing up to meet some of the expected 100,000 visitors at the event from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 July at the Detling Showground and will be on hand to highlight the many services KCC provides using a variety of fun interactive displays, activities and competitions.

Show highlights

This year KCC will have displays in two large marquees as well as the Youth Village area, Gateway Mobile, Duke of Edinburgh's Award trailer, the Tenterden Detached Project for young people and the Freedom Pass Bus all situated at stand 256 within the Experience Kent area alongside the Falmouth Ring.

Some of the stands to look out for include:

  • Laser light show to keep Kent moving - Every hour, an interactive display reacts to visitors' movements and highlights Kent's country parks, coastline and wildlife
  • Hands on demonstrations about learning in Kent - Students will be giving practical demonstrations about a range of vocational courses including health and beauty, construction, mechanics, hospitality and catering.
  • Turner in miniature - Ahead of work starting later this year to build the major new gallery in Margate, a detailed model by architects David Chipperfield will be on display for the first time. Read about the Turner Contemporary
  • Go to Togogo - a new website for young people in Kent will be available to try and everyone who gives their comments on the site will receive vouchers and be entered into a prize draw
  • Keeping an eye out for counterfeits - Kent Trading Standards will be showing a range of fake goods and inviting visitors to Spot the Fake
  • Test Your Knowledge and Trek Around Kent - An interactive electronic quiz by Kent Registrations and giant board game will offer prizes to those who know all about the county
  • A local library at the County Show - Young people will be able to choose a book which will be bought by Kent libraries and given to their local library with a nameplate showing who chose it and when. There will also be a place to sit and read and talk to library staff.

There will also be a chance to vote for an alternative suggestion for the Ebbsfleet landmark (link opens in a new window) - Kent's Invicta Horse.

Update 11 July 2008: KCC has won best trade stand for the public sector and services category at the Kent County Show.
