Kent County Council announces new Head of Communications

13/05/2008

Kent County Council today announced that Jane Clarke, currently at Sport England, will be taking the top communications role in KCC.

Jane Clarke joins the four star authority after an extensive career in public sector communications and broadcasting.

She has overseen all internal and external communications at Sport England for the last two years during which time she re-launched Sport England's Parliamentary Sports Fellowship scheme and launched Sport England's Active People Survey - the largest ever survey into the sport and recreational habits of the people of England.

Jane also spent seven years at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where she covered a number of roles including Head of TV and Radio, Head of Strategy and Campaigns and more recently Head of Internal Communications. This is backed up with more than 15 years experience in the film and TV industry.

Commenting on the appointment, Alex King, Deputy Leader of KCC, said: "Jane Clarke comes with an impressive track record and her experience will be invaluable in helping the authority maintain already excellent communications with the public of Kent and the staff who deliver KCCs services.

Peter Gilroy, the KCC Chief Executive added: "We now work in a challenging environment of finding new ways to reach and communicate with the public including developments in new media, such as Broadband TV, blogging and social networking. Jane's background will help Kent move forward in using these innovations and help us maintain our already excellent record as a four star authority.

"We would also like to thank Tanya Oliver for managing the Communications Unit on an interim basis on top of her current role as Head of the Strategic Development Unit. Tanya has added real value to the team in the last few months and was invaluable in helping us find the right person as her permanent successor."

Jane Clarke said: "I am delighted to be joining Kent County Council. I have been impressed by its excellent, indeed national, reputation and by its innovative approach to delivering first-rate services to all who live, work in or visit Kent."
