The 2008 Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to get
children into the library and reading this summer.
Kent Libraries and Archives working with Kent's Sport, Leisure
and Olympic service are calling all 4 to 12 year olds to race down
to their local library to join the Team Read from Saturday 19 July
in West Kent and from Saturday 26 July to Sunday 31 August 2008
everywhere else.
As the Beijing Games approaches and England begins gearing up
for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, there will be a real buzz
this summer around sport and this year's reading challenge has an
Olympic theme.
Children don't have to be sporty to join in though. It's all
about the joy of reading and taking part in the challenge with
achievable targets along the way at bronze, silver and gold medal
levels.
To complete the challenge you need to:
- go to the library and collect Membership Card and fun filled
fold-out poster
- read 6 books of your choice and along the way collect special
Olympic stickers
- go for Gold! Read and review all six books and win a limited
edition medal
Some libraries will be running Team Read events where young
readers can talk about the books and meet the authors. Check with
local libraries to find out what's going on.

people to fall in love with the written word and realise that life
is so much better when you read. The Team Read challenge should
inspire young people to spend some of the long school holiday with
their noses in a book but its sporty theme will also appeal to a
wider audience. I would like to encourage as many young people
possible to take part."
