Renewing library loans
If you'd like to keep your library book
longer than the standard 21 days you can renew it in the
New! Automated phone renewal service
Our new automated telephone service makes it even easier
for you to renew your items. Make sure you have your
library card and PIN to hand, then:
- Call 03000 41 31 31.
- Select option 1.
- Select option 8 and follow the instructions.
This is being introduced as part of the
SELMS consortium of library authorities. Find out more

- Log into your
- Enter your library card and PIN numbers.
- Click on 'Current loans'.
- Select the items you'd like to renew and click 'renew
selection' or choose to 'renew all' (DVDs and audio items
will incur a re-hire charge).
On your mobile or tablet
If you have a smartphone or tablet you can download
the libraries app from the Apple
- Login with your library card and PIN numbers.
- Go to 'My Account'.
- Go to 'Current Loans'.
- Press the renew button next to the items you'd like to
You can also renew your items in person at any of
our libraries at the counter or by using a self-service kiosk.
Items will normally be renewed for a further full loan period
unless already reserved by another customer. You need to renew a
book in the library after 4 remote renewals.
If you fail to renew or return your library items before the due
date you may have to pay a fine.
We now send out email notices to customers who
may be in danger of keeping items overdue. These are sent
out 3 days before the item is due as a courtesy to remind customers
to return or renew their items.
