Library refurbishments
We aim to modernise our library service to act
as a focal point for KCC services and widen access to Kent’s rich
culture. We do this through a continuous programme of
library refurbishments, improving access to and co-locating
services.
We want all our libraries to be bright, attractive and welcoming
to all the people who visit them looking afresh at the services we
provide to ensure they best meet the needs of the local
community.
In addition to the large projects detailed through pages in this
section and the Kent Library and
History Centre, recently completed refurbishments
include:
- Cranbrook - Complete
refurbishment of library,
with a bright modern feel. We
have created a spacious entrance, a
brand new children's library
and lots of new
books.
- Folkestone - Modernisation of the library area and creation of
a brand new History Resource Centre upstairs
- Stanhope - Moved into the brand new Moat housing building,
the purpose built library section is bright and inviting and the
new self service machines allow us to offer longer opening
hours.
- Swan Valley - Library moved to the ground floor of the
discovery centre, giving easier access to books, DVDs and
computers, and a bright welcoming environment.
- Deal - The library now has a wider, more welcoming entrance as
well as customer toilets and baby changing facilities. The walls
have been repainted, and new flooring and lighting has been fitted.
Meeting rooms have also been built.
-
Gravesend - Complete renovation and refurbishment of the
Carnegie building and toyshop annexe. The library now boasts a
community room, reading garden area, more local studies materials
and a better collection of book stock.
