dawsonera - Terms and conditions of use

These are the terms on which you may make use of the dawsonera Service (referred below as "the Service"). If you do not agree to these terms of use please do not use the Service.

Access to the Service

Dawson reserve the right to withdraw or amend the Service to any individual users without notice where they reasonably suspect fraud or misuse of the Service. From time to time we may restrict access to some parts of the Service.

You are provided with a user identification code and password as part of the security procedures applicable to the use of the Service: you must treat such information as confidential, and you must not disclose it to any third party. Dawson have the right to disable any user identification code or password, at any time, if in their opinion you have failed to comply with any of the provisions of these terms of use.

Your access to the Service may be occasionally restricted to allow for repairs, maintenance, the introduction of new facilities or services or for reasons beyond their control.They will attempt to restore the Service in full as soon as they reasonably can.

Links to other sites

Dawson have not reviewed any of the websites which link to the Services or to which the Services link. They are not responsible for the content of any other websites or pages and do not endorse or otherwise sponsor such links.

Intellectual property rights

Dawson are the owner or the licensee of all intellectual property rights in the Service and in the material published on it ("Licensed Material"). Licensed Material is protected by copyright laws and treaties around the world. All such rights are reserved.

Subject to the policies of the library or other institution from which you access the Service, you may (subject to the use of valid Access Credits) electronically save an item (either a book or other publication of a chapter thereof) taken from the Licensed Material. You may not copy and paste more than 5%, nor print more than 5%, of any such item taken from the Licensed Material.

You must not:-

  • Sell or re-sell or permit others to sell or re-sell the Licensed Material without Dawson's prior written consent;
  • Remove, obscure or modify copyright notices, acknowledging text or other means of identification or disclaimers as they appear;
  • Alter, adapt or modify the Licensed Material;
  • Display or distribute any part of the Licensed Material on any electronic network (including the internet) or any other distribution media;
  • Systematically make print or electronic copies of multiple extracts of the Licensed Material for any purpose other than as explicitly permitted by Dawson in writing;
  • Publish, distribute or make available any of the Licensed Material or works based on the Licensed Material or works which combine it with any other material, other than as permitted by Dawson in writing.


You must not reproduce any part of the Licensed Materials for commercial purposes without Dawson's prior written consent.

Reliance on information posted

None of the Licensed Material is intended to amount to advice on which reliance should be placed without independent verification. Dawson therefore disclaim all liability and responsibility arising from any reliance placed on any of the Licensed Material.

Jurisdiction and applicable law

These terms of use are governed by English law, and English courts will have exclusive jurisdiction over any claim arising from or in connection with the Service and these terms of use.
