Kent Community History Network

There are many groups looking after and providing access to information on Kent’s fantastic history. Most of these groups are run on a voluntary basis by local people who have a passion and enthusiasm for history and want to share this with others.

We are keen to work more closely with these groups to support the important work they are doing and to make more information on history available locally.

Some groups work in partnership with us through libraries, for example at Marden, Meopham and Joyden’s Wood. Others have set up their own heritage centres and community archives with advice, help and support from the History Services team, for example at Smarden, Ash and Kemsing. Other groups currently provide access to their material almost entirely through their websites, for example St Margaret's History Society.

Many communities have expressed a real desire to find out more about their local history and set up groups locally and we will continue to support them especially in areas that will benefit most from having access to their history.

We aim to do this by setting up a community history network linking all groups interested in history in the county and enabling them to support and encourage each other. If you want to join the network or learn more about it please contact the Archives Project Manager or the Community History Officer at the Kent History and Library Centre.
