Find your local society

Many people have an interest in history, be it the history of their area, an interest in a particular theme or just a fascination with the past in general.

Joining your local archaeological or historical society can be a great way to enjoy the heritage of your area, learn about the past and have fun.

The archaeological and historical societies in Kent offer a wide range of activities from talks and workshops to visits, tours and even holidays. They may even offer the chance to participate in an archaeological dig.

The societies often publish their research or produce newsletters giving notice of events. Some even organise conferences with guest speakers.

For people who want to research their own area or a particular theme, local societies are an important source of information and advice.

If you would like to learn about, care for and enjoy the heritage of your area, why not become a member of your local society? (PDF, 84k).

If you are involved with a local society that isn't on our list, or the details have changed, then please contact the Heritage Conservation Team.
