The Creative Foundation
The Creative
Foundation is a charitable organisation which aims to
regenerate Folkestone Old Town. Through the efforts of the
Foundation and the support of other organisations, the area is
being reborn as a national centre for creativity, known as The
Creative Quarter.
The Foundation is investing some £40 million into the
refurbishment of run-down properties and will let them at long-term
affordable rents as workspaces for artists and creative businesses
(many with living accommodation).
A University campus development has also been completed within
the Old Town area, offering courses in the arts. The Folkestone
Academy is also being built, which will specialise in the arts and
European culture.
The first Folkestone Sculpture Triennale is being planned for
2008. Stretching 2 miles along the coast, it will showcase new
site-specific work by some of the world's leading contemporary
artists.
A Performing Arts and Business Centre is also in the process of
development, funded with a grant from Kent County Council and
possibly with further funding from the Channel Corridor Partnership
and SEEDA - the regional development agency.
This centre will be a significant performance space in the heart
of the developing Creative Quarter and deliver workspace for new
creative business startups. For more information email info@creativefoundation.org.uk.
