Ramsgate
Walking routes
The seafront is a great place to start. The Viking
Coastal Trail runs along the coast of Thanet and is a
fantastic way to explore Thanet by foot, especially for
beginners.
Flat coastal defences and promenades offer superb views of the
sea and harbour and are well provided by the many cafe's and
restaurants along the seafront.
Parks
Walk up from the marina towards broadstairs,
and you soon find King George VI memorial park located on the
clifftop.
There are plenty of different areas to explore, making it great
for kids to have an adventure! Get
directions on Google.
Alternatively, Ellington Park only a couple of minutes walk from
Ramsgate train station, and not far from the top of the high
street is a gem nestled in the heart of the town.
There is a superb childrens play area, activity area (which both
children and adults can enjoy) and a variety of spaces, from
open grass to tree-lined paths leading to an Edwardian
bandstand.
Broadstairs
Walking routes
The seafront is again a great place for
walking which you can enjoy. Walk either along the beach or
sea wall and you can follow right around the coast heading towards
North Foreland.
The Turner and Dickens route
combines urban and rural areas in Thanet, linking Broadstairs to
Margate. It should take around 2 hours to complete.
Parks
Next to Broadstairs train station is a large open grass area
called the Memorial Recreation Ground. The park is large enough to
go for a walk around the outskirts and has a childrens play
area and free public outdoor tennis courts.
North Foreland and Kingsgate
Walking routes
Walking around the quiet area of North Foreland makes a change
for even most local people from Thanet, offering a slice of rural
landscapes and life which can be easily accessed only a few miles
from Broadstairs.
Start at the lighthouse and follow the footpath which runs
around the garden, from here you are greeted with a huge expanse of
open farmland, with oast houses in the distance, along with a
stable with horses and other livestock. You can also enjoy views of
the coast, and walk in a loop to end back at Joss Bay to explore
the beach.

Margate
Walking routes
You can join The Viking Coastal
Trail directly opposite Margate train station.
Along the sea wall you will find plenty of diversions, with slopes
and steps to the cliff tops and down to the popular beaches and
rock pools.

Parks
Dane Park has a great childrens play area, along with a cricket
pitch and tennis courts.There are large open areas ideal for
walking and kicking a football around. There are also lots of trees
which makes it great to explore.
