Turner and Dickens walk

Walk information
Route length: 4 miles (6.4km)
Take a walk along the newly opened, 4 mile route between
Turner's Margate and Dickens' Broadstairs. Much of the walk follows
an ancient footpath between
St Peter's and
St John's churches and the walk is signposted in both
directions.
Start at
Margate Harbour Arm next to the emerging
Turner Contemporary Gallery or on Broadstairs promenade
outside the
Dickens House Museum.
Scenes from Turner's and Dickens' works, lives and times are
displayed at three points along the route. Working with local
children and other residents, Broadstairs mosaic artist Martin
Cheek has installed a series of colourful panels in
Margate and
Broadstairs.
Local youngsters have also worked with Street Art
Studio to good effect by using spray cans to decorate the
pedestrian bridge over the railway line that links the two
towns.
Celebrate the connections Margate has with artist JMW Turner,
the famous sunset paintings and Broadstairs with writer Charles
Dickens who spent his holidays in the town.
Along the way you'll be able to see
Drapers Mill and
Crampton Tower, and pass through parts of Thanet that are
steeped in archaeological history.
The route has been checked by local volunteers as being
accessible to all, and if
you don't fancy walking both ways, there are frequent buses
running between the two towns.
