The sheer variety of landscapes, from patchwork fields and small hamlets to steep sided wooded valleys and fast flowing streams, makes the 27.5 mile Tunbridge Wells Circular one of the most popular long distance walks in the county.

The route passes through the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty around the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells. Walkers can enjoy the undulating countryside of the High Weald, a landscape of patchwork fields, broad-leaved woodland and parkland. It passes through the villages of Southborough, Pembury, Frant, Groombridge and Speldhurst. The route is of interest for its natural history, archaeological, historical and architectural features.

If you do not want to take on the challenge of completing the full 27.5 miles (44.3km), there are plenty of opportunities to sample sections of the walk. Savour the atmosphere and the changes in the scenery through the seasons in greater depth.

Shorter circular walks

SpeldhurstThe Tunbridge Wells Circular has been designed with four shorter circular walks, using fully waymarked link routes. Each walk starts in the centre of the historic town within easy reach of the railway station and local bus services.

The Southborough Circular, the Pembury Circular, the Sussex Circular and the Speldhurst Circular each highlight distinctive areas of this stunning Wealden countryside.

Notable attractions along the Tunbridge Wells Circular include Tudeley Church with its spectacular stained glass windows by Mark Chagall; orchards and vineyards; the site of Keyes Mill painted by Turner; Harrison's Rocks, a popular outcrop for serious climbers; Groombridge Place and Gardens - a key location in the filming of Pride of Prejudice (2005) starring Keira Knightley; and the historic George and Dragon public house, at Speldhurst, which is thought to date from the 13th century.

Postcode starting points: TN2 5TS (Speldhurst circular), TN2 3XE (Pembury and Southborough circular), TN1 1TE (Sussex circular).
