Royal Military Canal

Walk information
Stretching for 28 miles (45 km) between Seabrook in Kent and
Cliff End in East Sussex, the Royal Military Canal is the third
largest man-made defensive structure in Britain.
The canal was built
to protect England from the possible invasion of Napoleon's troops,
with construction of the canal beginning in 1804.
Today, the canal is a great place to walk and enjoy the
surrounding scenery and wildlife.
The variety of wildlife attracted to the area has led to
sections of the canal being designated as a Site of Special
Scientific Interest, and a Site of Nature Conservation
Interest.
