Rural transport

Get to the Kent countryside and coast with ease
Do you long to visit the countryside to enjoy the peace and
quiet and beautiful scenery but find it difficult to get there? Or
perhaps a group of you wish to visit but you prefer not to take
lots of cars?
Despite an extensive network of bus services and 107 mainline
railway stations, transport and access to services is a real
problem for many individuals and communities in rural Kent.
Community transport may be the answer.
There are a number of not-for-profit community transport schemes
around the county, offering flexible, affordable transport
solutions to their local members, enabling them to visit
destinations, perhaps otherwise beyond their reach.
Some schemes require a modest joining fee, on average £10 per
year, and hire charges are kept at affordable levels. Vehicles can
be hired with a driver and some schemes allow self-drive (subject
to conditions). There are also vehicles for hire that are specially
adapted for disabled passengers.
These rural transport schemes make it easier for everyone to
enjoy Kent’s countryside and coast, so make the most of this
excellent opportunity.
Don’t forget to use the Explore Kent website before you set off
to check the facilities and access information at your
destination.
