Top 10 family days out in Kent

Kent's rich history, spectacular and varied coastline and
stunning countryside means that there's something to suit everyone.
You can plan great family days out at very low cost, or even for
free, using the Explore Kent web pages.
Top ten things to do in Kent
1. Pack up a
picnic and head to Reculver Country Park in Thanet. Don't miss out
on the chance to follow the footsteps of Romans in this once
bustling coastal settlement.
Explore the remains of a Roman fort and Saxon monastery along
with the imposing 12th century Reculver Towers. Coastal erosion
means that the site may eventually be lost forever.
2. Plan a fun and educational day out at Lullingstone
Country Park, near Eynsford. Kids can play amongst enchanting
ancient woodland, some of which is thought to be over 800 years
old. Then have a great time trying to catch wildlife in our shallow
pond - bring a net (or buy one from the on-site shop).
3. Go on the hunt for rare flowers and insects at Peene Quarry Picnic
Site, near Folkestone - see if your kids can spot the
nationally scarce Adonis Blue butterfly in this Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty.
4.
You simply can't miss the opportunity to get the bikes out and take
the family cycling along some fantastic traffic-free cycling
routes.
5. Go for a stroll by the river at Teston Bridge
Country Park, near Maidstone - the ideal location to watch
boats cruise the River Medway.
It's also a great spot for a family barbeque. There is also the
annual Big Kite Festival.
6. The Turner and Dickens
route links two famous sea-side resorts; Margate and Broadstairs.
Both ideal for the family and a great day out at the beach. A
walk along this route lets you get a taste of Thanet's
wide open farmland and relaxing pace of life.
7. Go bird
watching on the mudflats of Pegwell Bay Country Park, near
Sandwich.
Have an ice-cream from the small cafe and take a look at the
life-size Viking ship before venturing down to the disused hover
port to find some ancient fossils.
8. For spectacular views of the beautiful Kent countryside, head
to the White Horse Wood Country Park at Detling near
Maidstone.
There are also the remains of an ancient castle to discover.
9. Explore Brockhill Country
Park with the family on a circular walk. A stream runs through
the park, attracting dragonflies and butterflies. There is also a
deer paddock so you can get a sight of these beautiful animals.
Stop for a picnic at the large lake and spot ducks on one of the
islands.
10. Let the kids burn off some energy at the fantastic play area
at Manor Park,
combining play features for both younger and older children. You
can admire the beautiful lake and flowers within the park.
