British Cycling Ride Leaders
Join in the biggest ever celebration of cycling in 2012 by
helping other people have fun on a bike!
This summer, British Cycling is teaming
up with Sky to develop a new and exciting cycling programme. The
aim is to get more people out on their bikes, enjoying the outdoors
and experiencing the fun they can have on two wheels.
To help with this, they are looking for British Cycling members
and cycling enthusiasts to join them in becoming ride leaders.
Ride leaders could be qualified coaches, Bikeability instructors or
members of clubs with experience of leading within the club
environment.
Some of the rides will also be on the public highway, so ride
leaders should regularly ride on the road and be confident riding
with traffic.
As a qualified Ride Leader you’ll get a recognised qualification
and be able to plan, deliver and evaluate rides to groups of
beginner and intermediate level children or adults. You'll receive
kit, training, support and payment for delivering our Sky Ride
Local bike rides.
Each ride leader will receive a day's free training where they
can be given tips and pointers to be a better ride leader (and to
make sure their cycling skills are in tip-top condition), a branded
jersey and payment for each ride that they lead.
If a ride leader is not already a British Cycling member, they
will also be given a year's free Everyday Cycling membership.
Training in Kent is on 28 January and 4
February 2012.
To apply to be a Sky Ride leader fill out this
application form (PDF) and email it to clivecopeland@britishcycling.org.uk
Get involved with your local cycling club or the CTC.
Kent Highway Services has teamed up with the Sustrans
Rangers project. The aim of this partnership is to have 6 teams of
Rangers across the county that will help to look after the cycle
network in partnership with Kent Highways.
Get involved in a Go-Ride
club: The success of Go-Ride is dependent upon volunteers to run
the club and provide the coaching. Why not become a cycling coach
and play a part in developing the next Olympic Gold medal
winner?
To find out more, visit British
Cycling or contact your local Go-Ride club. If there
is no Go-Ride club near you, why not team up with your friends to
start one?
In order to plan, develop and maintain the cycle network in the
county, Kent Highway Services works in partnership with local
district councils and the public. An excellent way to get involved
is to join your local cycling forum.
Cycling forums meet on a regular basis (usually quarterly) to
discuss all the issues related to their local cycle network. These
forums are supported by both Kent Highways and the local district
councils. For more information, please call 08458 247 800.
