Cycling near the coast can often be very rewarding. Stunning views and often easy flat surfaces make coastal cycling in Kent an ideal way to spend a family day out.

 

People cycling the Heron TrailThe Heron Trail - from Higham to Upnor on the Hoo Peninsular

An 18 mile (29km) circular route using quiet lanes on Regional Route 18.  

Cycling the Coast to Cathedral routeCoast to Cathedral - from Dover to Canterbury

A 50 mile (80km) circular route using Regional Routes 16 and 17. Shorter linear rides from Canterbury and Dover to Folkestone are also an option.  

BoatCrab and Winkle Way - from Canterbury to Whitstable

A 7.5 mile (12km) route using National Route 1. The route is mainly traffic free.

Viking WayThe Viking Coastal Trail - from Pegwell Bay to Reculver

A 29 mile (46km) route on the Isle of Thanet peninsular, using Regional Route 15. The route can be broken into shorter coastal and inland sections.  

Cycling in HytheSandwich in Kent to Rye in East Sussex

A 54 mile (87km) route using National Routes 1 and 2. Almost half of the route is traffic free.

Royal Military Canal near Hythe

Enjoy this 6.2 mile (10km) route along the banks of the canal. Almost entirely traffic free and flat this relaxing route is ideal any time of year.
