It is the perfect way to take in Kent's quintessential scenery, complete with hops, apple orchards, oast houses, vineyards and picture postcard villages, such as Chilmington Green and Matfield.

Apple orchardAnybody who thinks Kent is flat might reconsider after this undulating journey, which is not recommended for novice riders.

For experienced cyclists keen to tackle the full run, which forms part of the well-signposted Sustrans National Route 18, there are dedicated cycle lanes, running alongside main roads in both Tunbridge Wells and Ashford.

However, there are shorter rides that allow cyclists to explore the Weald, in slightly more manageable chunks.

The main traffic free areas along National Route 18 are at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest and the Ashford Green Corridor - these offer perfect family cycling and are ideal locations for novices and young children.

Cycling at Bewl WaterThose interested in more challenging mountain bike routes along the way should try the 12 mile circuit around Bewl Water at Lamberhurst.

This journey has lovely views across the lake, the largest inland water in the South East.
