Bike It

Bike
It is a project that was set up by Sustrans, in direct response
to research that discovered that millions of children said they
would like to cycle to school but only 2% of them actually do
so.
The ground-breaking Bike It is a project that has now reached
Kent and has already quadrupled the number of children cycling to
the schools it has been working with.
Kent's Bike It officer, David Robert, will be working with 12
schools in the Ashford area to enable more children to cycle safely
to school. The project is targeted at 9 to 13-year-olds, but
all the children at Bike It schools benefit. Bike It will also be
working with selected schools in Canterbury from September
2009.
David also works with the county's school travel plan advisers
to find practical ways to increase the number of youngsters cycling
to school. This includes working with partners to provide secure
cycle storage, on-road cycle training (up to level 2 of the new
national standard) and information, as well as working on Cycle to
School week and other events.
The Bike It project is managed by Sustrans and in Kent is funded
by Kent County Council, the bicycle industry and backed by
Cycling England, with the
support of the Department for Transport.
