Five West Kent artists have created site specific work in
response to a selection of pieces from the museum archives made by
the museum curator. These pieces, which can be viewed in the
display case in the museum, all relate to cutting – with shears,
scissors, blades, and teeth amongst the chosen artefacts. The
situation of the gallery, located as it is next to museum and
library, offers the opportunity to explore the similarities and
differences in approach to curation of contemporary art, with its
tendency to be a temporary display space for experimental work; and
the archival quality of the museum, looking after artefacts that it
deems to be culturally significant.
