Detail, "A Hairy Story" by Rosalind BarkerApokrisis[response] is the fourth in a series of exhibitions hosted by the Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope Gallery in 2010 to showcase contemporary work from established and emerging Kent artists. Previous exhibitions are Kalos [beauty], Eidos [form] and Scopos [the watcher]. The gallery sits alongside the library and museum within the Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope building.

Exhibiting Artists: Rosalind Barker, Luke Brabants, Susan Evans, Franny Swann and Ray Taylor.

The exhibition is free to visitors and runs from 1 December 2010 to 27 January 2011

Five West Kent artists have created site specific work in response to a selection of pieces from the museum archives made by the museum curator. These pieces, which can be viewed in the display case in the museum, all relate to cutting – with shears, scissors, blades, and teeth amongst the chosen artefacts. The situation of the gallery, located as it is next to museum and library, offers the opportunity to explore the similarities and differences in approach to curation of contemporary art, with its tendency to be a temporary display space for experimental work; and the archival quality of the museum, looking after artefacts that it deems to be culturally significant.
