May is Local & Community History month

The aim of Local & Community History Month is to increase awareness of local history, promote history in general to the local community and encourage all members of the community to participate.

Enjoy our exciting Spring 2013 programme of talks (PDF, 68 k) on our great county's heritage.

Be inspired by our expert speakers talking about their research. Learn how they use in the writing of history – the documents and sources, many from Kent’s wonderful archives held at the Kent History and Library Centre.  Witness them at work, uncovering evidence, interpreting it and in their company, discover historical treasures held there. And see some of them for yourself, laid out on display during the talk.

When did the Middle Ages end? How did you pay for things in the seventeenth century? How did ordinary folk write before the dawn of modern schooling? These questions and many more posed and answered.

People in Parliament

The case study for this communities project exploring the impact of Parliament on local communities and investigating how people have influenced Parliament has now been published online.

The project is the result of a partnership between the Parliamentary Archives, Parliamentary Outreach, Kent History and Library Centre and Marden History Group and looks at the impact of the South Eastern Railway on the community of Marden in Kent.
