Women in Kent
An illustrated booklet has been produced by Kent Archives for
International Women's Day 2008 and the National Year
of Reading.
The 9 women featured came from all walks of life, from the
highest levels of aristocracy to the poorest of people, and the
period in which they lived covers over 450 years, from 1425 to
1875. Their ages range from the 12 year old Eva to the 'discrete
oulde and maiden gentlewoman' who compiled a recipe book. A letter
from Jane Austen to her favourite niece Fanny Knight is
included.
We hope that this publication as well as the 'portraits' and quotes on this site will encourage you to open
the door to our Archive centres where more treasures await
discovery.
The booklet costs £3.50 and is available for sale from the
Centre for Kentish Studies and the East Kent Archives
Centre.
